International Association of Merchant Seamen card is an internationally-recognized membership card that indicates that you are a sailor or a shipboard crew member and contains the person information, nationality, and the shipboard duties he or she is qualified for. This is not the Merchant Mariner's Document (MMD).
Seamen are civilian individuals who are employed on board commercially /or privately operated vessels. These seamen may be hired directly by the company operating the vessel or through a marine labor union.
